The UMBC SIAM Student Chapter is hosting a professional development seminar during the usual Graduate Student Seminar time slot. The SIAM Student Chapter will provide brunch from 10--11am in BIO 120. The talk will follow from 11am--noon.

Title: An Introduction to Statistical Meta-Analysis
Abstract: SMA deals with developing appropriate statistical methods to combine information arising from independent sources, all sharing a common goal. I will present a variety of examples to motivate the need for carrying out SMA. Some aspects and issues arising in SMA will be highlighted, and a specific application with details will be presented.
