Topic:  Shifting Content to the Students

Is the Content Monster breathing down your neck?  As instructors, we often feel so much pressure to cover content that we are reluctant to try new techniques or class activities.  If we could just shift some coverage responsibility to the students, we could be free to explore more concepts, more deeply.  But how can we do that without hearing students complain that we are making them “teach themselves?”  It turns out that many faculty in the department are already using techniques like reading quizzes and flipping the classroom to shift content coverage to the students.  For this teaching circle, please bring your best ideas for helping students take responsibility for content outside of the classroom.
