The topic of this teaching circle is twofold:
- Methods to increase student participation in surveys
- REX introduction
Topic 1: How can you encourage students to respond to surveys? How can you increase the likelihood that students complete surveys? This topic will take up the first 15 minutes of teaching circle discussion, and we will talk about a variety of approaches to increase student response rates in different contexts (e.g. SCEQs, attitude-surveys, knowledge inventories).
Topic 2: Have you ever wanted to explore your course grade distributions across academic and demographic groups? Would you like to know how successful your students are in the next class in a series? You already have access to UMBC’s institutional data warehouse, REX. For the last 40 minutes of the teaching circle, I will present a REX orientation, and explain how to access the data sets available (as well as how to request access for more detailed information). To take full advantage of the REX presentation, please bring a laptop or tablet.
