Title: Rifle Inspection Problem: Data Science Perspective
Abstract: A desperate phone call from the production manager of Ichhaapore Rifle Factory (situated in the outskirts of Kolkata) led to this consultancy problem which was taken up by ISI SQC and OR Specialist Dr Sugata Adhikary. It was basically related to hopeless results of 'test firing' after assembling rifles from a supply of five components. Dr Adhikary had successfully applied the concept of fractional replications and resolved the issues and identified the most disturbing components.
Subsequently, he inducted Professors Jayanta Ghosh and Bikas Sinha to dig into more theoretical issues related to this problem. I propose to discuss our work which was very fascinating as an example from a Data Science perspective!
