Description
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Earlier this fall, the Department of Mathematics & Statistics hosted a focused screening of Counted Out with our faculty and students and our partners at the Ingenuity Project in Baltimore City. We really enjoyed this film and the thoughtful discussions it inspired about teaching, access, and belonging in mathematics.Next week, UMBC will host a broader public screening and discussion of Counted Out that connects these themes to equity, culture, and civic life in Baltimore and beyond. This event brings together departments and centers from across campus, along with community partners, for a shared conversation about who gets to participate fully in the mathematical (and civic) life of our society.
If you missed our earlier screening, this is a great chance to experience the film. We especially hope to see strong participation from Math and Stat, as this will be a very visible, cross-campus event.
Wednesday, November 19: 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. (Screening at 5:30)
