Math and Stat Accessibility Discussion and Demo – Online Event
Date & Time
February 6, 2026, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Description
Dear Colleagues,
It was requested by several faculty members to have a stand-alone discussion of accessibility and the impending implications for the April ADA rollout for our courses and content.
My hope is to bring people together (virtually) to discuss what we've learned from upper administration and DoIT over these past two months, and then discuss and demo some of the new software tools/features that may be relevant to Math and Stat faculty.
This will be informal and will include some screen sharing between various stakeholders in this discussion.
If you would like to get a leg up, there are two things you can do in the meantime:
- Try to use MathJax inside of Blackboard, in the following way. Inside of a textbox in BB, feel free to directly use LaTeX code. When you click out of the textbox, it should automatically render using the inherent MathJax add-on to Blackboard.
- Make an account with MathPix using your UMBC email (it's free): https://accounts.mathpix.com/login You can then begin the process of converting .pdfs (such as your handwritten solutions/notes) into TeX markup and attempting to use existing LaTeX packages to make them "accessible".
If you didn't understand any of this ^ , that's okay. We'll talk about it at this event!
Sincerely,
Justin
