Description
Dr. K. C. Sivakumar, Professor of Mathematics, Indian Institute of
Technology-Madras will be presenting the following talk:
Title: Tucker's theorem for almost skew-symmetric matrices
Abstract: Tucker's theorem states that for a real skew-symmetric matrix, there
is a nonnegative vector x such that Ax is nonnegative and Ax+x is positive. It
is well known that this result is equivalent to the celebrated Farkas' lemma.
By viewing a skew-symmetric matrix as a matrix with rank zero symmetric part,
in this talk, I will present a version of Tucker's theorem for almost
skew-symmetric matrices, which are matrices with rank one symmetric part.
