Title: Multivariate Statistical Learning with Applications in Rural Health
Abstract: Rural health has recently become an area of high interest in both the medical and public health communities. However, the challenges of developing and deploying statistical methods that have real impact in these settings are often underestimated. In this talk, we will discuss emerging projects on the use of machine learning in rural healthcare settings, along with experiences from real deployments of those tools in practice. Finally, we will also discuss new approaches in the multivariate statistical learning space, including novel methods for estimating parameters for multivariate regression under ill-conditioned covariance structures, as well as a second project on multitask learning with matrix-variate features, with applications in medical imaging.
